OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (WMC-TV) - The National Weather Service has confirmed that an F2 tornado touched down in Olive Branch Friday evening.
The Northern Mississippi city was one of the hardest hit when strong storms swept through the Mid-South, tearing off roofs, toppling trees and snapping power polls.

Major reconstruction work lies ahead for many businesses, including Old Style BBQ on Goodman Road.

On Saturday morning, Olive Branch residents began the major task of cleaning up.

Jerry Skillen's home suffered significant damage.

"The whole inside of the house is destroyed, gonna have to be gutted," he said. "It's all water-damaged, all the furniture."

Anita Wallace was at home with her sons when the storm rolled through and toppled a large tree, which crashed into the children's bedroom.

"I heard the noise and I told the kids to get into the bathroom cause I knew what it was," she said. "It was not a noise that you'll ever forget. And we got in the bathroom, and as soon as we did, the tree fell."

She says she's very grateful her family wasn't hurt. "I think God put that tree in my front yard for a reason - so that it would protect us from the wind."

Emergency officials say power is slowly being restored to many areas of the city.
They caution residents to not drive through damaged areas so that crews can easily gain access to those who need help.
