You know, there are a lot of people out there who just work hard, take care of their families, pay their taxes, live by the Golden Rule and avoid the temptation to violate the law. Where do they get their inspiration? Apparently not from the government leaders here in Memphis and Shelby County.

This week's bad example comes from the widening investigation in to the bribes and personal favors granted by the Shelby County Clerk's Office. Memphis City Councilwoman Wanda Halbert this week reveals that she was granted some sort of waiver to get her vehicle tagged outside the rules, but she defends it by saying that other elected officials did the same thing. And she's quoted as saying that they all should be treated the same and mentioned as well.

She's completely missing the point. It's her constituents who should be treated that same. If she can use her status as an elected official to get a special deal, why shouldn't every one of us be entitled to the same treatment?

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
