MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - After powerful storms swept through the area, Memphis Light, Gas and Water promised that every customer would have power restored within one week. By 10:00 Friday night, they were very close to accomplishing that goal.

For those who spent the last seven days sweating, air conditioning couldn't come quickly enough.

MLGW customer Bobbie Clark says seven days without power in her Westwood area home has left her feeling exhausted.

She says the temperature inside her home felt like is was "550 degrees."

Clark's family is one of several on Alta Road that remained without power Friday afternoon, one week after a storm tore up their neighborhood.

"Right now, my house feels like it's 110 degree weather," said neighbor Antionette Sipp. "Perspiring. Even fanning yourself doesn't help."

Residents said they understood that trees entangled in power lines are a big problem for MLGW, but they never imagined restoring power would take this long.

"I would have given it three days at the most," said neighbor Mamie Mack. "I didn't know the pole was broken, and they had to come out and put a new pole in."

Mack says she doesn't blame MLGW for the week-long outage.

"I'm not frustrated. Not yet," she said. "Now next week, next Wednesday, maybe!"

Clark said she was holding out hope that MLGW would meet the promised midnight deadline. At 8:00 p.m., her power was restored.

As for others who are still without power, an MLGW spokesperson says the utility company still plans to have everyone's power back up by midnight.
