MARION, Ark. (WMC-TV) - A family in Marion started their morning off with an unwelcomed visit from a wild animal.

Steve Wood says a 130-pound deer cleared the family's six-foot-tall privacy fence early Friday.

He says the deer crashed through a window and began running through the house, leaving a trail of blood and shattered glass.

The animal charged from the kitchen into the dining room before hitting the front door. It then backtracked to the kitchen, where it met Wood.

"I just jumped on the deer," he said.

Wood wrestled the deer on the kitchen floor.

"It began to cry and make these terrible sounds," he said.
Wood finally subdued the exhausted deer and dragged it outside through the garage with help from his son.
"And I turned the animal loose, and she stood up and looked at me like, 'okay, it's over.' And ran off," he said.
The family says the episode left them frazzled.
"I'm just glad bears don't live around here," said Wood.
The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission tells Action News 5 that these types of encounters are not uncommon as development encroaches on natural habitats.

Meanwhile, the Woods say their homeowner's insurance will not cover the damage left by the deer.
