MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are investigating the murder of a pizza deliveryman who was shot and killed early Sunday morning after his attacker lured him to a vacant home.

Witnesses told police 28-year-old year Stephen Faulkner was simply making a pizza delivery to a home on the 4800 block of Brentdale when a single gunshot ended his life.

But the caller didn't live at the house, which is vacant. And the caller wasn't looking for pizza - police believe he was looking for money.

Neighbors say they heard a single gunshot.

"I just heard a pow," said Gwen Coleman, who lives two houses down from the vacant house.

After Faulkner was shot, he apparently tried to run help and collapsed in front of the next house.

Coleman says she heard the shot at 12:45 a.m, but police didn't receive the call about shots fired until 1:45 Sunday morning.

Coleman says she's used to hearing shots fired into the air in her neighborhood, so she didn't call police. But when she went outside later, she saw the young man's body.

"Flat on his face, wearing black shirt and black pants," she said. "When they moved him I saw his eyes."

Coleman says she'll be praying for the victim's family.

"He didn't deserve to die," she said.
