SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - A Mid-South police chief was arrested Saturday night in Southaven on disorderly conduct charges.

The incident happened just before midnight, after spanning two Circle K convenience stores in Southaven.  Officials said Clarksdale Police Chief Greg Hoskins was involved in what witnesses said started as a verbal dispute with employees at the Circle K at Airways and Goodman Road.

"(When) officers arrived, they said the individual had gone across the street and created another disturbance. The officers went to speak with the individual and other folks and the disturbance continued," Southaven Police Chief Tom Long said.

Officers were unable to resolve the disturbance, and Hoskins was later arrested a second Circle K.  He was charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, and one count of resisting arrest.

Officers took him to the DeSoto County Jail, where Hoskins posted a $2400 bond and was released.

Long would not get into specifics about the arrest, but said the first officers on the scene requested assistance.  Circle K employees would not comment on the situation.

Long said although these are misdemeanor charges, no one is above the law - even those in law enforcement.

"No matter what position you hold, if you push it past that point you are not special and you are not above the law," he said.

Long said Hoskins' initial court appearance will be scheduled soon.

No one from the Clarksdale Police Department responded to our phone calls for comment Monday.
