As the saying goes...sometimes, it's better late than never.
The University of Memphis, still filling out it's roster for next season, will now add a top point guard who had gotten away.
Former St. Georges standout Elliot Williams says Memphis is the school he'll transfer to next season.
Williams, a rising sophomore guard, was granted his release Wednesday from Duke because his mom is ill.
Memphis was one of the four schools he'd been considering, along with Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Tennessee.
After spending most of his Freshman year as a sub, Williams took over the Blue Devils starting point guard job late last season and anchored their run to the ACC Tournament title and the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Williams has asked the NCAA for a waiver of the rule forcing student-athletes to sit out a year after transferring.
