MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Fans from around the world are planning to be at Michael Jackson's memorial service next week, including a student from the University of Memphis.

Like most Michael Jackson fans, Sheila Guerroro never got to sit down and have a conversation with the pop star, but his death has touched her the way a friend's death would.

That's why Guerroro managed to come up with the money to fly to Los Angeles to bid her hero a final farewell.

"I feel a connection - a lot of fans feel a connection - because growing up he was my escape from my environment," she said. "He was the one I felt was going to allow me to dream and think big."

Guerroro's favorite song isn't Thriller or Man in the Mirror. In fact, it's not even one of Jackson's hits.

"Keep the Faith," she said. "I connected to that song, because going through a lot at home and school, I needed that influence, that positive influence."

Guerroro hopes she'll be able to get one of the 11,000 tickets to Jackson's Memorial Service in L.A..

"If not, I'll still be there," she said.

With Jackson's songs inspiring her along the way.
