MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Hours after escorting his wife out of Shelby County Jail East,  Memphis Councilwoman Janis Fullilove's husband spoke with Action News 5 in the couple's front yard.

He declined an on camera interview, but told us Fullilove was resting at a friend's house across town while dealing with the latest charges to land her behind bars.

"The more serious is fraudulently obtaining a Tennessee driver's license," District Attorney Bill Gibbons said.  "Which is our allegation, and I stress it's an allegation."

Action News 5 first obtained the driver's license application Fullilove apparently signed last year.  She claimed her license was lost.  But it had been confiscated by deputies in DeSoto County following an arrest.

Our cameras caught her behind the wheel of her car while delivering MIFA meals in March.  That proved she drove when she did not have a valid license.

"And that is kind of an interesting twist to this," Gibbons said. "Because if we do go to trial, we'll have at least one reporter and three cameramen who may be witnesses."

Fullilove's husband told us the councilwoman heard about her pending arrest during Tuesday's council meeting.  He the news caused enough stress to affect her behavior.

Fullilove faces nearly a year in prison and fines if convicted on these new charges.  The council is consulting with the city attorney to determine how it should proceed.
