MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Former Memphis Grizzlies and University of Memphis point guard Antonio Burks remained in critical condition Tuesday, one day after being shot during a robbery.

Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Katina Gerrard said Tuesday there was no change in the medical condition of Burks, who underwent surgery Monday night after he was shot in the lower torso.

Burks played three seasons at the University of Memphis under then head coach John Calipari, starting his career as a walk on and ending his career as the Conference USA Player of the Year.
He played two NBA seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies.
But now, police are trying to figure out why Burks got shot.  Tuesday, investigators confirmed that a group of men were shooting dice in the backyard at 353 LaClede, and that Burks was there watching.

Three armed men burst around either side of the house and started shooting.  Police say the shooters stole $3,200 from one man, and $300 from another.  Meanwhile, Burks was shot in the stomach, but managed to grab a ride to the hospital.

"A great Tiger," was how University of Memphis Athletic Advisory Committee member Cato Johnson described Burks.  "Someone who pulled himself up by his bootstraps."

Johnson said he watched Burks' rise through the university's basketball program with pride.

"He was part of the City of Memphis." Johnson said. "He was part of the fabric of the City of Memphis and the City of Memphis' basketball tradition."

Police are searching for three shooters.  If you have any information that might help, investigators ask you call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
