Who knew the Appalachian Trail went through Nashville? State Senator Paul Stanley of Germantown, another family values man, is just the latest in a long string of politicians to preach about the importance of good moral character while apparently doing something much different.

If Senator Stanley had not been the champion of traditional marriage legislation, you might feel that this is just a personal indiscretion that's simply a matter for his family to deal with, but that's not the case here.

To his credit, Senator Stanley went to authorities immediately when he became the target of an alleged blackmailer. That seems to be about the only thing he did right.

It's unusual that this story stayed out of the news as long as it did, but surely Stanley knew it wouldn't be a secret forever. He had a lot of opportunity to come forward, apologize as necessary and then move on.

And by the way, Senator Stanley, if you're trying to figure out how to apologize, please don't use the Governor from South Carolina as a role model.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
