MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Members of the public had a chance give their input Friday into what they think should go into a Mid-South mainstay, Overton Square.

Before the city issues a permit to demolish anything at Overton Square, the plans will have to go before the Memphis City Council.  When they do, several community groups want to be ready to show the city what Midtown residents want.

"It's rare that you get this amount of area in the Midtown area," said June West of Memphis Heritage. "This is large a chunk of property to redevelop, and we really think it is so valuable to the Midtown area that we need to do it right."

West said she is concerned the prospective developers who are from out of town and don't understand the importance of the Overton Square Property.

The property is under a contract, and Associated Wholesale Grocers has expressed interest in putting in a box grocery store on the site.

The Memphis Regional Design Center wants to get your input on what you want to see at Overton Square.  You can join the conversation by clicking here.
