DYERSBURG, TN (WMC-TV) - Investigators in Dyer County are filing charges against a 14-year-old girl who lied to a 911 operator about being kidnapped.

Every available resource from the Dyer County Sheriff's Department was dispatched last week after the frightening call came in. The girl claimed she and her younger sister had been kidnapped by a man in a red Chevy Suburban.

CALLER: Somebody's trying to molest us.

DISPATCHER: Do what?

CALLER: Somebody's trying to molest us.

DISPATCHER: Somebody's trying to molest you?

CALLER: Yes.

DISPATCHER: How old are you?

CALLER: 13.

DISPATCHER: 13?

CALLER: Yes.

But the dispatcher heard someone in the background coaching the caller, leading investigators to determine the call was a hoax.

Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Holt said the girl lives in Caruthersville, Missouri, just across the Mississippi River from Dyersburg.

Charges against her include filing a false police report, and the TBI says it will seek financial reimbursement for the resources used.

The teenage suspect is set to appear in juvenile court next month.

And Holt says it's possible more people could be charged in connection with the hoax.
