8 families displaced by meth explosion

WAVELAND, Miss. (AP) - The assistant manager of a Waveland apartment complex says residents of eight evacuated units probably won't be able to return home before Wednesday.

The apartments were evacuated after what police say was a meth lab explosion Thursday evening.

Albert Biehl said Saturday that he's having the apartments tested. He says that the lab is closed over the weekend and it probably will take 24 to 48 hours to get results.

Biehl says that if tests don't find contamination, residents can return as soon as the results are in. If they do, says Biehl, it could take months to get them cleared.

Waveland police have said that a man arrested Thursday - Jonathan Alexander - allegedly was making crystal meth.

The American Red Cross opened a shelter at Lagniappe Presbyterian Church in Bay St. Louis.
