MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police have charged Ealrode Davis with first degree murder in the stabbing death of his roommate, 47-year-old James Donley.
According to police, a sleeping Donley was stabbed in the stomach with a Sumurai sword Saturday morning.
He was pronounced dead at the Regional Medical Center a short time later.
Police say Davis was angry because Donley had asked him to move out of the house in the 2200 block of Devoy.
"A neighbor called to tell me," said neighbor Lillian Loggins. "When I looked out and saw all the police cars, it was a shock to me because this is a decent, quiet neighborhood."
Charles Johnson, Sr., who has lived in the neighborhood since 1965, said Davis recently told him that he was behind on the rent.
"I don't like it," Johnson said. "This is a nice neighborhood, everybody retired. We don't like it."
