SOUTHAVEN, MS (WMC-TV) - A Southaven teen was shot to death Monday night during an argument with his friend's ex-boyfriend.

Detective Mark Little of the Southaven Police Department said Brendan Talley, 18, was shot to death during an altercation at the Oak Hollow Apartments, located in the 5100 block of Rambling Rose.

Little said the suspect, Benjamin Talbert, was visiting his ex-girlfriend's apartment when he got into an argument with Talley. During the argument, Talbert allegedly shot Talley.

"The subject was a friend of his ex-girlfriend, and he came over to talk to her, and they got in a verbal altercation before the shooting occurred," Little said.

After the shooting, Talbert left the scene before police arrived. He later turned himself in at his residence in Hernando.

Talbert, who was charged with murder, is being held without bond at the DeSoto County Jail.

Brandon Chamoun, a resident of the apartment complex, said the shooting was a shocking occurrence in a normally quiet apartment complex.

"Nothing ever happens," he said. "I've seen police here for little stuff, but nothing like this ever."

Little said this was only the second murder of the year in Southaven.   Last year the city recorded a record six homicides.
