Congratulations to the Shelby County Election Commission for having the wisdom to combine the two special elections in October to save the taxpayers' money.

That was a good idea, but you have to ask yourself, should the taxpayers be paying for these elections at all? I mean shouldn't we send an invoice to State Senator Paul Stanley, asking him to underwrite the cost of his part of this special election. If he had behaved professionally the taxpayers wouldn't have to spend any extra money to replace him.

And the same goes for former Memphis Mayor Willie Herenton. Remember that shortly after he was reelected, Herenton told us he never planned to serve his full-term, but that he had to run because the other candidates in the race weren't good enough.

Since Herenton was secretly planning for this special election all along, I'm sure he wouldn't mind paying for his half of it. And by the way, if Herenton chosen to spare us from this special election, he would have also spared us from all of the current City Hall drama driven by the temporary changing of the guard.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
