MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Armed with resumes, job seekers from across the Mid-South showed up for a job fair Tuesday morning at the Embassy Suites in Memphis.
The free event gave job seekers a chance to show their best to recruiters from more than one dozen Fortune 500 companies.
"We would like to find at least two people by the end of the month, and then hopefully another two people every month for the next 12 to 24 months," Aflac recruiter Greg Griffith said.
Employers at the event said even in this economy, jobs are out there for aggressive people. Griffith offered a few interview tips for people who want to get hired.
"Eye contact is one thing, he said. "A good personality, the ability to speak with people, and be comfortable in front of people."
Griffith said it also helps to have a good attitude and to dress properly.
"Show them that you are a person that is willing to work hard and you have a strong work ethic," he said.
And while Griffith said they are plenty of 'do's' when you are looking for a job, there are also some 'don'ts.'
"Don't be dressed worse than the recruiter...and if you decide to wear jeans and flip flops, that's probably not going to start out a tremendously successful sales career for you," he said.
And after the interview, remember to follow up, Griffith said. You can hear a thousand "no's," but all you need is one "yes."
