MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police are investigating a Sunday night attack at the Woodchase Apartments that has a striking similarity to rapes reported early this year.

According to neighbors, three people - a woman, her child, and a friend - were home Sunday night when the attack happened.  When the friend went outside to grab her pocketbook, a large man grabbed her and forced her back into the apartment.  He tied her up naked, and then went into a back room and raped the woman who lived then.

Then, he simply left.

According to neighbors, all three people home in the apartment described the attacker the same way: a man at least six feet tall, with a big belly, who was wearing a mask, and had bright green or blue eyes.

While the description sounds familiar, investigators say they have not yet linked this sexual assault to so-called "Big Belly Rapist" shown in recent TBI composite sketches who is wanted for a series of rapes in both Memphis and Martin, TN.

Currently, the TBI is not involved in the investigation of the Woodchase attack.  Meanwhile, Memphis police say they are considering all possibilities, and residents are being cautious.

"It worries me a lot, because I'm out here enjoying this beautiful day, riding my bike, and the last thing I want to think about is a rapist being out," resident Pam Taylor said.

MSARC nurses examined the victim in this case.  If you can help police solve this crime, investigators ask you call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH.
