HORN LAKE, MS (WMC-TV) - The internet has become a major source of information for people who live a busy lifestyle.  Recently officials in DeSoto County's third largest city, Horn Lake, decided the best way to communicate with residents is by computer.

"That's what we're here to inform the public on: alderman meetings, budget meetings, things that they can interact with here at City Hall, plus anything else going on outside," said city IT administrator Dennis Arends.

According to Arends, Horn Lake's new blog is very user friendly, and citizens do not have to register to comment about posts.  They are required, however, to provide an email address.

Resident John King was enthusiastic about the new website.

"It's a great idea," King said. "There's probably not enough input, and this new technology...provides a good opportunity for the city of Horn Lake to find out what its citizens want."

Arends said the time has come to listen to the voice of the people, whether its good or bad.

"If it's negative feedback, that's fine, because we can improve on that," he said. "If its good feedback, we appreciate that as well."

Resident Barbara Matheny likes the idea, and says we all have a right to express our fair opinion with no restrictions.

"Everybody has an opinion," she said. "Everybody has a voice. Everybody has a statement. They need to use it."

Other local municipalities have begun using Facebook and Twitter to communicate with residents.  According to Arends, if Horn Lake's new website is successful, officials may start using social networking websites as well in the future.
