OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) -  Police in Olive Branch are seeing a drastic increase in stolen cars, and the thieves know exactly what kind of car they want.

According to police, thieves have stolen at least 13 vehicles over the past six weeks from residents of Chateau Ridge, located southeast of Highway 78 and Bethel Road.

Olive Branch Police Major Tim Presley said the thieves are focusing almost exclusive on vehicles manufactured by General Motors during the 1980's and 1990's.

"Those eighties and nineties General Motors vehicles had a steering column that was easy for them to crack, stick a screwdriver in there, and take the vehicles away," Presley said.

Presley said the incidents all occurred at night, and at least two of the cars were drug away.  Police have no suspects in custody, but the number of thefts have fallen in recent days.

Presley asked anyone with any information about the recent thefts to call the Olive Branch Police Department at 662-895-4111.
