GLEASON, TN (WMC-TV) - Investigators have taken a man into custody in Gleason, Tennessee in connection to their investigation into a series of rapes in Martin and Cordova.
Bruce Tuck, 35, was seen hiding his face with a red rag as he was led to a police car by authorities around 5:15 p.m. Before he could be put into the police car, Tuck was placed on a stretcher and into an ambulance.
Investigators said Tuck would be charged with at least one count of aggravated rape for an attack in Martin.
Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Steve Shular said Tuck could be linked to other sexual assaults in Martin, Memphis and Shelby County.
Wednesday, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Martin Police Department were leading the investigation in Gleason.
As Gleason police blocked the street, and sheriff's investigators covered the neighborhood, TBI agents moved in and out of a house at 340 Phelps Street in Gleason.
Martin Police Chief David Moore said investigators closed in on the house to follow a lead in the case and to serve a search warrant. Outside, it was clear that all kinds of evidence was being collected, including a pick-up truck that was towed away.
Meanwhile, a steady stream of locals drove by, looking for an update on an investigation into a case that has many women worried.
A man who has been dubbed the 'big-bellied' rapist is wanted for several rapes in West Tennessee. The assaults happened near the Cordova area of Shelby County and Martin, Tennessee.
Victims of the rapist have given similar descriptions of the man, saying he has worn a mask over his face, and has a large belly.
The first attack was reported in late July.
