DYERSBURG, TN (WMC-TV) - An unsolved string of rapes has Dyersburg residents concerned.  Police are investigating three cases in the last ten months but say they could be close to putting someone behind bars.

"From what I understand, they are hitting women who live alone and are older women," said Dyersburg resident Carolyn Booker.

People in the normally quiet area say they're keeping an eye and ear out for anything suspicious.

"We nearly know everybody that walks up and down the roads because we see them on a daily basis," resident Wanda Blaylock added.

"I don't go out by myself, especially at night.  I used to not be scared by myself, but now, no way," Booker said.

Between February and July, police say there have been two rapes and one attempted rape.  In all three cases, the victims were chosen at random and didn't know one another.

Police don't have a good description of the suspect.  Investigators say the rapes happened in south Dyersburg, but they don't have much info to go on.  They only physical description they have is that the suspect is a six foot black man with a hood.

"We have realized a point in the investigation where we're through victim's interviews and evidence. We are now waiting on crime lab results to proceed," said Dyersburg police chief Art Heun.

Police say the results should be back within a week, and they hope this evidence will lead them to an arrest in this case.

Dyersburg police emphasized that these rapes are in no way connected to the "big-bellied" rape cases.
