Several people wrote in to the "Your Turn" mailbox this week with concerns about the way the school districts were handling the speech to students by President Obama.
This letter from Phillip Wolf is similar to several others we received. In his words:
I was highly upset that the Desoto County School Board sent these permission slips home with their students about President Obama's school address. Speaking as a white male, I cannot understand why the school board would be sending out these slips. If this was a white president, nothing would be said and it would be business as usual if he wanted to talk with the youth of today. Can we not get out of the wilderness and put racism away for just a little while? Even at the bottom of the letter head it states, "This district does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin."
