MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A local man is searching for a stolen truck he says is the last tie to a dead relative.

"I was stunned.  I didn't know what to do."

That was how Danny Pankey reacted moments after his family's prized possession was stolen.  The classic 1992 Chevy Silverado belonged to Pankey's father-in-law, who passed away two and a half years ago.

Pankey, who is a pastor, said he drove the truck to Baptist Memphis last week to pray for someone who was dying.  He parked the truck in the hospital's garage.

"This is 11:00, right before the lunch hour," said Ric Ransom of Baptist Memphis. "The deck is pretty busy.  A lot of activity."

Moments later, according to Pankey, someone stole the vehicle.  Ransom said the hospital's surveillance cameras may have captured it all.

"At this point we've not recovered any additional information from anyone who may have seen something," he said.

Pankey says the truck meant everything to his father-in law, who spent a lot of time and money having it customized.

"He liked having his truck souped meant a lot to him," he said.

Pankey said his father-in-law's dream was to give the truck to his son on his 16th birthday in December.

"He was excited about that because it was his grandfather's truck," Pankey said. "Driving something that was like a family heirloom was important to him."

If you have information that could help investigators locate the truck, contact the Memphis Police Department.
