MILLINGTON, TN (WMC-TV) - On Saturday, a victim fleeing a robbery suspect switched off the runway lights at Millington Airport to save his life.

When the 26-year-old victim returned home to his apartment complex around 1:00 a.m. following a shopping trip to Walmart, a robber held him and gunpoint and demanded his money. Realizing the victim had only $20, the robber ordered him to get in his car and drive to the ATM to make a $500 withdrawal.

After driving to the bank, the victim pretended to make the withdrawal  He then returned to his car and told the suspect the transaction failed.

The suspect threatened to shoot him.

The terrified victim went back to the ATM, but then ran and hid while the suspect drove around in circles searching for him.

The victim heard a shot, but didn't know whether it had been fired at him. Running for his life, he scaled a barb-wire fence at Millington Airport and pulled a switch that turned off the runway lights and navigation system.

Covered in sweat and scratches, the victim made his way to a nearby house and knocked on the door.

The frightened homeowner answered the door, but held the man at gunpoint until the sheriff's department arrived and heard his story.

The suspect has not been found. Millington police are waiting for bank surveillance footage to help them identify him.
