MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police say two men who drank their way through a crime spree were arrested after they passed out in the getaway car.

Jerry Arnold and his friend Rodney McGregor are accused of stealing hundreds of dollars in cash and two cases of beer from convenience stores on Summer Avenue and Sycamore View.

Court records say,"MPD officers observed a silver Ford Taurus with a drive-out tag in the rear window near I-240 and Walnut Grove. When they approached the vehicle, they observed two males passed out inside the vehicle that matched the description of the suspects from the two robberies."

Arnold's neighbor, Perry Smith, says too many people in his Nutbush neighborhood are living a life of crime.

"There's a lot of people does that kind of mess around here." he said. "They qualify for being stupid."
Arnold and McGregor are being held in the Shelby County Jail on hefty bonds.
