5k race honors slain Bartlett teacher's memory

BARTLETT, TN (WMC-TV) - Family, friends and former students participated in a 5K race Saturday to honor a murdered Mid-South teacher.

On Thanksgiving Day in 2006, Bolton High School teacher Ashley Scott was beaten to death by her husband, Jeffrey Scott.

He was convicted of murder and sentenced in January of this year.

Saturday's memorial race raised money and awareness for victims of domestic violence.

In previous years, the race raised more than $15,000 for the YWCA of Greater Memphis.

"Now, we can look back and say there's closure, and now we can just celebrate the impact she had as an educator and a teacher to all of her students," said Bolton High School Principal David Stephens.
