MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police area searching for answers in the mysterious death of a woman in a University of Memphis apartment complex.
Stricken with grief and emotion, Gearlean Williams was still in shock Wednesday afternoon over the murder of her niece, 27-year-old Pamela Hale.

"My niece was laying there, dead," she said.
Police found Hale's body Tuesday in her apartment on Southern Avenue.  According to Hale's family, she was hit by a stray bullet Tuesday night as she sat on her living room couch.  A hole in the apartment's front door marked the spot where the bullet entered.

"I couldn't take it 'cause I know my baby was gone," Hale's mother, Dorothy, said. "My child was gone."

Wednesday afternoon, police surrounded an apartment complex just two blocks away.  A two hour standoff ended when two people were taken into custody by police for questioning.  No charges have been filed.

Kathy Hale, Pamela's sister, said Pamela worked at a local daycare center and loved to sing.

"My sister was a good girl," Kathy Hale said. "She was a Christian girl."

While Hale's family said she didn't deserve to die, they hoped whoever committed the crime would soon be brought to justice.

"We hope this young man can be brought in before he kills somebody else's child," Williams said.
