Wild Rides in Finals at NHRA O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals

You ever wonder what it'd be like to throw a piston at 200 Miles per Hour?

Or, how 'bout lose a Tire at 150?

Well, the guys with the National Hot Rod Association sure have...

Final eliminations of the NHRA O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals moved to Monday after all the rain over the weekend at the Memphis MotorSports Park..

Some Wild Rides on a fast track as we get down to the Countdown to 1 for the seasonal Championship.

A couple of close shaves in Funny Car...

Dan Wilkerson loses a wheel and slams the wall on the opposite side of the track..

No matter what angle you look at this from...it's a bad wreck..

But, these cars, with titanium steel roll cages, and the Drivers with all kinds of body and fire protection...do the trick..

Wilkerson is able to walk away from this one..

He'll drive again next week, even though his car won't.

And another scary scene al little later in the day..

Tony Pedregon blows a piston and blows his top in a fireball down the raceway..

The Body takes off like the Space Shuttle...but Pedregon rides it out in the Chassis...and wins his heat.

He makes it to the Finals.. But the Wally belongs to Jeff Arend, who upends the Force team of John Force and Ashley Force Hood on the way to the Championship..

Jeff Arend takes Funny Car with a 4.09 second run at 310 MPH.

Top Fuel goes to Morgan Lucas, who outduels The Sarge, points leader Tony Shumacher in the U.S. Army Dragster in a squirrelly race to the finish at 251 MPH.

And Pro Stock goes to Jason Line, who beat Ron Kalitta in as tight a race as you could ever see.

Line wins it with a 6.57 sec. Run at 210.05 MPH.
