MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - As if being in an ambulance isn't bad enough, things turned from bad to worse for a patient around 5:30 Friday morning.

The ambulance the patient was in, operated by EMHC Ambulance, crashed into a pickup truck at the intersection of Winchester and Elvis Presley.

Billy Davis came up on the crash moments after it happened.

"It was a real bad accident," he said. "I just prayed for them that everyone got out safely."

The ambulance skidded about 100 feet before it landed on its side.  The patient, two paramedics, and the driver of the pickup truck were all taken to The MED.  An emergency responder said they were all beat up, but all were expected to recover.

According president of EMHC, the ambulance was transporting the patient in a non-emergency situation, and at the time of the crash, its sirens were not on.  The company is still trying to figure out what happened.

Davis said the busy intersection can be dangerous.

"People go down here just flying," he said. "They need to slow down."

EMHC Ambulance, based in Memphis, has been in operation for the past 13 years.

Meanwhile, a fatal traffic accident accident on I-55 northbound near Brooks Road backed up traffic for hours Friday morning.

One person died in the accident, which blocked three northbound lanes of I-55 just past Brooks Road for much of the morning commute.
