MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis blogger was at the center of a heated exchange between two Memphis City Council members this week.

The showdown started Tuesday as council members were discussing nominees for a consolidation committee. Councilman Shea Flinn nominated local blogger Steve Ross, who was not present at the meeting, to sit on the 15-member Metro Charter Commission.

Fellow councilman  Joe Brown was not pleased with the suggestion.

Ross, a video director for corporate events, blogs about Bluff City politics. He says there are four posts on his blog that specifically mention Brown.

In one of the posts, Ross says he quotes Brown as having said, "Memphis don't need no buyout plan," and then added commentary.

"I think I said, 'city councilman and English afficianado,' " Ross said.

Ross says he was caught off guard by Tuesday's exchange.

"I was shocked and disappointed, but I wasn't. I was surprised to have been nominated in the first place. So, it's just kinda is what it is."

Ultimately, Ross was not appointed to the commission.

Ross says he doesn't dislike Brown. He says he'd like to meet him and shake his hand.

Ross also says he will be involved in the consolidation debate and plans to blog about the Metro Charter Commission.
