The Mississippi RiverKings in conjunction with the Central Hockey League today announced that Ray Jean has been named the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week, for games played through Sunday, October 25.
Jean, 27, in his first CHL season, was the winning goaltender for the RiverKings in a pair of victories over the defending CHL champion Texas Brahmas last weekend.
The Randolph, Maine native stopped a total of 59 shots on goal in the two victories, a 3-2 shootout victory over the Brahmas in Southaven on Friday, October 23rd and a 5-3 victory in the Brahmas' home opener Saturday, October 24th.
The victories moved Jean's record to 3-1-0 for the season. Entering this week's play, he has a 3.18 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .893. Jean is tied for the CHL lead in wins with three, first overall in minutes played with 245, and second in the CHL for saves with 109.
Jean has also stopped three of four shots in a shootout to rank second in shootout save percentage at .750.
Jean came to the RiverKings in the off-season after playing briefly in the AHL and ECHL. He became a pro after a four-year collegiate hockey career split between Maine and Bentley.
In honor of his achievement, Jean will receive a special gift from Oakley.
The RiverKings will spend the Halloween weekend with a pair of games at home, beginning Friday night at 7:05 PM against the Tulsa Oilers, followed by a Halloween afternoon home game against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, and starting at 3:05 PM.
On Saturday, a pre-game tailgate party at 11 AM followed by a post-game jersey auction of the game's special event jerseys will benefit the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program.
