MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis Mayor A C Wharton will form a task force to monitor the overhaul at the Memphis Animal Shelter.

The city shelter was raided Tuesday by Shelby County Sheriff's deputies investigating allegations of animal abuse. The city regained control of the shelter Wednesday night.

Wharton's plans for the task force were outlined in a letter Thursday. The group will consist of citizens, veterinarians and other animal specialists who'll be able to address the shelter's needs, monitor conditions and report to the mayor daily.

The task force has 60 days to turn in its final report of recommendations for the shelter.

Wharton said it could take several months before any criminal complaints or indictments are handed down. He says the city will then decide if discipline or termination is warranted.

On Thursday afternoon, the District Attorney's office said they will review evidence and determine whether to present it to the grand jury for possible criminal indictments.
