MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The family of a 15-year-old shot to death earlier this week is looking for answers after new clues reveal who may have attacked Alex Bolar.

At the Sammen Market on Overton Crossing, owner Yasir Morshid says a woman was robbed outside last week.

"She came in here she said, 'I need to use the phone. I got robbed,'" store owner Yasir Morshid said.

The market is across the street of the home where Alex Bolar lived.  Bolar, 15, was found murdered in a Frayser park Wednesday.

According to Morshid, the robbery victim was Bolar's mother. Bolar wasn't with her at the time of the crime, but Morshid believes one of her other sons may have recognized the robber.

"When I asked him, 'Do you know who it is you know who robbed your mom?' he said, 'Yeah, a young dude with a hoodie on,'" Morshid said. "I said, 'Do you know them?' He said, 'Yeah, I know them.'"

Memphis police investigators haven't said whether there is a link between the robbery and teenager's murder, but Bolar's neighbor, Tedra Wilson, is convinced there is a connection.

"All I could say is from rumors," Wilson said. "The reason this happened is because he told the truth on some people who did something wrong to his momma."

Friday, family and friends defended the young man's mother, saying she's been wrongly criticized for not knowing her son was missing the night he died.

"Being that the media was saying it was a 12-year-old, we never thought it was a 15-year-old," she said.

Wilson said Alex Bolar's mother works three jobs to provide for her children.

"Whoever said that woman don't care, they're telling a hot lie," she said.

Wilson added that Bolar's mother, who is preparing to bury her son, is heartbroken.  Funeral services will be held next week.
