MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Shelby County District Attorney's office announced increased rewards Tuesday for information they hope can bring closure to three cold cases.

The death of 22-year old Derrick Kindred Jr., has been a burden on his family for years.  Kindred died in 2004, when he was shot to death.  His body was found burned in a field.  Now, his father, Derrick Kindred, Sr., hopes reward money offered by the state of Tennessee will help find whoever is responsible for his son's murder.

"The whole crime has been so horrendous," Kindred said.

At the request of District Attorney Bill Gibbons, Governor Phil Bredesen has allocated $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who is responsible for three unsolved cases, including Kindred's, being investigated by the Memphis Police Department.

"We hope that with the amount of these rewards that one or many individuals will come forward in each case with the information they need," Gibbons said.

In addition to Kindred's death, the cases include the 2002 murder of Patrick Johnson, who was shot and killed as he left work at a liquor store on Thomas Street, and the 2007 death of Ethan Jacobs, who was shot and killed during a robbery.

"There's nothing like missing a loved on and watching him die in front of you," said Jacobs' father, Alan.

All families are hoping the reward money will help bring closure and justice.

"I'm just praying that somebody in the public will hear us and just answer," Kindred said.

The total reward from the state and Crime Stoppers offered in the Kindred and Johnson murders is $6,000 each. $10,000 is the total amount being offered in the Jacobs murder. Anyone with information that can help solve any of these cold cases is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
