MY TURN: Congratulations Deidra Shores!

One of the things we hear most often about television news is that we don't put on enough good news stories. You also hear people complaining that Memphis makes the national news headlines too often with stories that reflect negatively on our community. But this week, we have had good news from Memphis, and the promise of more to come in the future because of 13-year-old Deidra Shores.

You can't watch this animated student from Colonial Middle School without breaking into a smile. Deidra won the NBC Today Show's Kid Reporter Contest and she reacted with her now trademarked brand of enthusiasm.

Deidra won the reporter position by receiving the most votes from people across the country. She was supported in that effort by her school, her church and many other local organizations.

Of course, all of us here are proud and excited that Deidra's stories will be airing right here on WMC-TV 5. Congratulations Deidra. You remind us how thrilled we were when we got our first jobs in television.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
