3-Vols Football Players Arrested for Attempted Armed Robbery

Three University of Tennessee Football players, all Freshmen, including highly touted Wide Receiver Nu'Keese Richardson, and Starting Safety Janzen Jackson, are charged with attempted armed robbery at a Convenience Store near the Knoxville Campus.According to Knoxville Police, Richardson, Jackson, another Freshman Defensive Back Mike Edwards, plus a female companion Monique Montmarquet, are being held at the Knox County Detention Center.

According to victims statements to Police, ...one of the men in a Black hoodie approached them, opened the driver's side door, showed a black semi-automatic handgun and said -quote- "give me everything you have." end quote.

They say a second man came up on the passenger's side and made the same demand.

The victims, all of nearby Maryville, say a Third man told the other two it was time to go.

The Victims called 911..

The Police began a search for the suspects, including the reported female driver.

Their car was found near Gibbs Hall on the UT Campus, with two black hoodies, marijauna paraphenalia, and a black pellet gun.

The suspects were all taken back to the store, where the victims identified them, and said Edwards and Richardson were the ones who asked for the money.

Richardson, who scored a Touchdown against Memphis last week..and Jackson, who was already suspended for that game, were both 5-star recruits in Vols Coach Lane Kiffins' first recruiting class.

Edwards was a 3-star recruit.

Kiffin says he's gathering information on the arrest of three freshmen

Kiffin said after practice Thursday that he'll deal with the

matter as details unfold.

Kiffin had just touted his teams' clean record for no off the field problems on Wednesday, a problem that clouded the final days of former Coach Phil Fulmer's tenure.

Richardson and Edwards are being held on $19,500 Bond.

Jackson was released on his own recognizance.

The Vols play at Ole Miss Saturday in Oxford.
