GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) - Two suspects in an armed robbery at a Germantown McDonald's are in custody after police caught them in the act.

The armed robbery happened Sunday night at the McDonald's at Poplar and Germantown, when two men wearing scarves burst in.  According to police, the men locked three employees in the restaurant's freezer, and then made the manager and another employee open the safe.

Meanwhile, in the freezer, an employee called 911.  As dispatchers remained on the phone with the frightened employee, police were sent to the restaurant.

Germantown Police Department Deputy Chief Rodney Bright said the first officer to arrive at the scene saw the suspects walking out the door.

"One ran back in," Bright said. "One ran outside. Officers caught one guy inside the bathroom, and caught the other guy in the parking lot."

The suspects left their car running in the parking lot. Police charged Rodney Benton and Arthur Chandler with aggravated robbery, kidnapping and resisting arrest.

Monday, customers we spoke with were surprised by the robbery.

"I come here quiet frequently in the morning - most every morning," Mack Hamblin said. "That's the first I've heard of it."

Benton and Chandler are behind bars in Germantown on $250,000 bond each.
