MY TURN: Thanks for showing the way

This weekend, it will be Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw on the big screen, introducing the world to an incredible family. And the real life people they're portraying in this wonderful story are Memphians.

The movie, "The Blind Side," opens in theaters around the country on Friday. It's the story is of the Tuohy family, and the extraordinary gift they provided to Michael Oher, a Memphis teen who six years ago was virtually homeless.

As I frequently like to say, leadership is showing the right way by going first. That's what Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy and their family have done for all of us.

There are thousands of young people here in the Mid-South, and millions more throughout the world who need the helping hand that this generous family provided to Michael Oher. The Tuohys and Mr. Oher have shown us what is possible. Now, it's up to the rest of us to write our movie-worthy scripts.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
