Two motorists killed in separate accidents

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Two motorists died in separate automobile wrecks in the Mid-South Sunday.

Just after 4:00 a.m., one person was killed in an accident involving a car on Carnes just east of Airways Boulevard.  Police said the car veered off the road, struck a tree, and rolled to a rest on its roof.

A passenger in the car was killed.  Two other people in the car, including the driver, were not injured.    Police said drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Sunday afternoon, an accident between a car and an 18-wheeler on I-40 between mile markers 53 and 55 claimed one life.

Investigators have not said what caused the accident, which tied up traffic in both directions for hours.
