MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Mid-South man is facing homicide charges after police say he delivered a fatal punch to a homeless man asking him for money.

According to investigators, the incident happened last July in a parking lot at 628 S. Highland, near the University of Memphis.

When panhandler Carl Brown, 57, asked Jason Harcourt, 30, for money, the two got into an argument.

The exchange became hostile, and after exchanging words, Harcourt punched Brown in the face.  Brown fell back, hitting his head on a car bumper and then the pavement.

Harcourt ran from the scene after throwing the punch.  Brown was taken to a local hospital, where he died several months later.

Police say Brown died of injuries he sustained in the incident, and Harcourt was arrested and charged with reckless homicide.

He is being held on $100,000 bond.
