Iverson to Retire/Thanks Memphis

Allen Iverson... whose brief stint with the Memphis Grizzlies ended earlier this month... announced tonight he will RETIRE.

But not before he had some final words for Memphis.

Iverson played just three games this season with the Grizzlies... all on the road.

He later took a leave of absence so he could attend to quote "personal matters."

The Grizzlies eventually agreed to part ways with Iverson and released him from his contract.

Tonight... Iverson thanked SEVERAL people in his retirement announcement.

And even saved some space to mention Memphis.

Iverson said quote... "I'd like to give a special thanks to the people of Memphis.

I never played a home game for your beloved Grizzlies, but I want you to know how much I appreciate the opportunity given me by a great owner in Michael Heisley, and the support of the city.

I wish the Memphis Grizzlies' organization all of the success that the game has to offer."

The Grizzlies waived Iverson last week. No other NBA team has picked him up.
