MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Memphis police found a woman hours after she was reported kidnapped Monday night outside her home.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that around 8:30 Monday, Amanda Clayton walked outside her apartment at 1145 North McNeil to talk to her ex-boyfriend, Jeffery White.

According to witnesses, White then pulled out a handgun, struck Clayton on the head with it, and forced her to walk away from the scene with him.

Investigators searched for the pair all night, before ultimately finding them in a hotel room at the Red Roof Inn on Camilla.

Clayton was not hurt, officials said.

White is still being questioned in the case, but has a lengthy arrest record that includes four arrests for assault.

  • In July 2009, a woman accused him of firing 2 shots at her.
  • In May 2008, a girlfriend accused White of getting a pistol, then threatening to kill her and her family. The affidavit says he pulled the trigger but the gun was jammed.
  • In May 2007, a girlfriend accused him of punching her in the face, causing her nose to bleed, and pulling her from the apartment.
  • In October 2006, and ex-girlfriend accused him of hitting her twice in the face with his fist and holding her against her will for 10 hours.

All four of those cases have various dispositions. Court records list White as listed as a convicted felon.

At this point he has not been charged in this most recent case.
