Another Chick-Fil-A burglary possibly linked to earlier crime

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The Chick-Fil-A restaurant at Poplar and Mendenhall is serving up something else alongside its delicious chicken sandwiches.

"We have stepped up security," said franchisee Scott Malone.

That's after burglars satisfied their "craving" for cash by breaking through a window around one 12:45 Monday morning.

"They were in and out in just a few minutes -- not very long," said Malone.

Malone opened this particular Chick-Fil-A more than 10 years ago.  He tells Action News 5 this is the first trouble he's had with burglars.

"But by the time police got here they had already vacated the premises," he said.

According to a police report, three suspects removed the safe with crowbars before taking it out of the broken window.  They drove away in a green SUV.

It's almost identical to the burglary of the Union Avenue Chick-Fil-A during the last week of October.  That crime occurred just 40 days after its grand opening.

"We think it's the same group of people and certainly hope that we catch them," Malone said. "We have video we hope to be sharing soon."

Meantime, Malone says it is business as usual.  He says customers have no reason to be concerned as they dine, for now, near the spot where the burglars broke in.

We're still serving customers and taking good care of people," Malone said.

Memphis police cannot say for sure if the two crimes are connected.  But they are not ruling it out.  There are simply too many similarities.
