Teen suffers minor injuries in house fire

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis teen was injured Friday night in a fire in Whitehaven.

Firefighters were called a home in the 3700 block of Bluejay Road around 7:30 p.m. Friday.  Inside, they found a young teenage boy with second degree burns to his face.

The teen was taken to The MED in non-critical condition.

Investigators have not determined what caused the fire, but Lt. Wayne Cooke of the Memphis Fire Department issued a warning to homeowners.

"We recommend this time of year that you check all your heating units and make sure they are clean prior to lighting them, because they often present a problem if there is deterioration or an obstruction in those heating units," he said.

Fire officials say the home did have a working smoke detector. and it helped everyone in the house escape serious injury.
