MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A woman shot a man who tried to rob her husband at their home in southeast Shelby County earlier this week, officials said Wednesday.

According to Shelby County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Steve Shular, just after 10:30 p.m. on December 7, two men approached Mike Murik as he got out his vehicle in the 4300 block of Whispering Bend Drive.

As Murik scuffled with the attackers, one of them, Richard Crawford, 36, of Memphis, shot Murik in the leg.  Murk's wife, Maria Lopez-Guerrero, heard the commotion, retrieved a gun, and shot at the suspects.

About thirty minutes after the robbery attempt, Crawford checked himself into Delta Medical Center on Getwell Road, suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Hospital staff notified sheriff's department investigators, who later charged him with attempted first degree murder and attempted especially aggravated robbery.

According to Shular, Crawford could face additional charges, and deputies are still searching for the other suspect.
