MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Princess Tiana is the focus of a new animated feature that takes the world's most prolific producer of animated films back to the drawing board.

The Princess and the Frog, Disney's first tradionally animated feature in more than five years, is a musical comedy set in the city of NetraditionallyFor the first time, an African American Princess has made it onto the list of Disney royalty.

Critics have complained that Princess Tiana spends most of the movie as a frog, but those criticisms didn't hold much weight with parents and children who saw the film in Memphis on Friday.

"I just think it's a wonderful event to have the girls come see the Princess and the Frog, especially since it's the first African American princess for Disney to produce," said parent Camille McMullen. "It's just really an exciting thing."

"If you really think about it, there were Asian princesses (and) there were Indian princesses," parent Susan Lightman added. "This is just another princess in general. To the kids they don't see it like that."

While the cast of characters in the Princess and the Frog offer a new level of diversity, the moral of the story is classic Disney: Everyone has the chance to be what they want to be.
