OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. (WMC-TV) - Olive Branch police are warning women to be on high alert following several purse snatchings in the city.

Authorities say at least four women have been recent victims. One woman's purse was stolen from her car as she unloaded groceries at her Olive Branch home. Another woman says a suspect tried unsuccessfully to grab her purse right in front of a busy grocery store.

A third woman's purse was snatched by a male suspect when she returned home from holiday shopping. And a fourth claims someone snatched her purse in a parking lot as she was busy tending to her grandchild.

Police say the suspects are targeting elderly female shoppers area of in the Highway 78 and Goodman Road.

"I guess we're vulnerable, and maybe we aren't as careful as young people," said Shelby Peyton, 72.

Olive Branch resident Glenda Keller says she's not taking any chances.

"They're going to target the elderly because that's an easier target. They know they can get away with it," she said. "I'm not going out by myself. I'll make sure I watch my surroundings."

Police believe several suspects may be involved in the purse snatchings.

Anyone with information that can help lead to an arrest is asked to call Desoto County Crime Stoppers at (662) 429-8477.
