MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - The mother of a teen killed in car crash Monday on Walnut Grove Road spoke frankly Tuesday about her son and everything he left behind.

Nakita Cannady and her family will be forced to spend Christmas without her son, 18-year-old Shantwan Jackson. Jackson died Monday while riding to school with his friend Tyler Anderson.

"Still can't believe it," she said. "I'm trying to stay strong for my kids.  My husband is trying to stay strong for me."

The two Houston High School Students were traveling eastbound on Walnut Grove early Monday morning when Anderson, who was driving, lost control of the car, started sliding sideways, and struck a Land Rover SUV traveling westbound.

"Bad things always happen to good kids," Cannady said.

Cannady said her son was good kid who was crazy about sports. The Houston High senior was looking forward to graduating and had a bright future ahead of him.

"He was going to have his own business - HVAC technician," she said. "Heating and air. And I always teach him to go further that what your going to do next.  He had great potential."

It was a life his mother said was cut too short.  Family members now have to rely on each other for support as they try to make through a difficult time.

"Just keep praying for my heart," Cannady said.

Anderson remained in critical condition Tuesday at The MED.
